Forces of Nature: Ancient Maya Art

Celebrate ancient Maya art and contemporary Latino art at B Scene, where DJ sets from Chulita Vinyl Club and Grammy winner Adrian Quesada will set the tone as you explore three new exhibitions late into the night.

The Blanton's B Scene

This two-part exhibition explores the history and contemporary urgency of climate-related issues. Curated by journalist Jeff Goodell, who has written extensively on the topic, it's the first exhibition at the Blanton to explore one topic across several of the museum’s temporary gallery spaces.

If The Sky Were Orange: Art In the Time of Climate Change

Keep the holidays weird at the opening of Steve Parker's interactive installation Weird Winter, complete with musical snow globes and marionette-animated trees. Plus live music by Superfónicos, art tours, an artist talk with Parker himself, free hot chocolate, and cookie decorating.

Artist and musician Steve Parker brings a new installation to the Blanton that’ll make even the grinchiest grin, complete with brass instruments, musical snowglobes, marionette-animated trees, and carols like you’ve never heard them before.

The Blanton: Weird Winter

With live music from Ray Prim and a silent disco from Peligrosa Collective, plus a special pop-up print show, a "Curator's Choice" tour, and galleries open late (until 8pm). Flyrite and Haymaker bring food and bevs.

The opportunity to witness, in person, the creative expression of different times and diverse cultures is one of the perks of city-dwellers everywhere – and exemplified by the collections and traveling exhibitions hosted by UT’s acclaimed Blanton Museum of Art. The Blanton’s newest show displays masterpieces from Edo-period Japan, on loan from the Worcester Art Museum through June 30. These “pictures of the floating world” depict the lifestyle, pleasures, and interests of the urban population – samurais, geishas, kabuki actors, boat parties, palaces, and lush landscapes.
